Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
